Meet the Staff: Social Media Manager and Graphic Designer, Zachary Dotson

The next member of the Motor City Rockers staff is the man behind all the accounts, our social media manager and graphic designer Zachary Dotson.

Dotson, a Waterford native, has always had a passion for graphic design and hockey.

Dotson got his start in designing in high school where he would mimic hockey edits and jersey designs that he would find online.

"I grew up in a hockey family," Dotson said. "But my interest in hockey design came from a combination of seeing designers posting their work on Instagram and putzing around on the family computer. At some point I was tasked with a logo for the house team i played on, and that kind of kicked everything off."

While in high school, Dotson got his start running social media accounts for various scouting suborganizations.

He would continue those roles throughout college. Dotson graduated from Oakland University in 2023 with a major in marketing and a minor in graphic design.

Not long after graduating, Dotson found an opportunity to work with the Motor City Rockers.

"I applied for the Rockers because I really wanted to work in sports," Dotson said. It was a bonus that it happened to be in hockey, the sport I knew best."

Dotson started the 2024-25 season as a gameday ops intern, but his passion for design and his drive quickly saw him taking on bigger roles with social media, and on the broadcast.

After the season was over, Dotson was happy to help run the social media in a more full time role, even though the team was taking a year off.

"I decided to stay with the Rockers through the hiatus because i thought there would be a good opportunity on the other side of it," Dotson said. "The more I was able to work with Ken and see how committed he was with the Prowlers, the better I felt about my decision."

This past season, Dotson helped out the Port Huron Prowlers with their social media designs, advertising, in arena graphics, all while still lending a helping hand on the broadcast.

Now that the Rockers are back to active status, Dotson has high hopes for what Motor City's branding and social media cand look like.

"We're looking to set a high standard for what Rockers social media and design can be," Dotson said. "Our goal is to create a presence that feels professional and consistent with the quality of the brand we're building Downriver."
