Rockers Sign Defenseman Islom Dzhabberganov

WYANDOTTE, Mich. — The Motor City Rockers announced their first player signing since resuming operations and relocating to Wyandotte, adding defenseman Islom Dzhabberganov for the upcoming season.

Dzhabberganov, a 6-foot-2 defenseman from Tashkent, Uzbekistan, joins the Rockers after spending last season with the Corpus Christi IceRays of the North American Hockey League. He recorded 16 points in 50 games while establishing himself as a reliable presence in the defensive zone.

Rockers general manager Nick Field said he is excited about Dzhabberganov’s potential as he makes the jump to the professional level.

“Islom is a young rookie making the jump from the NAHL to the professional level,” Field said. “He’ll turn 21 this summer, but he’s already big and strong. He has a great hockey IQ, makes great reads on outlet passes and knows when to jump in on offense. He plays a hard, physical game, and I expect him to develop into a really good player for us.”

Dzhabberganov becomes the first of many offseason signings, as the Rockers build their roster for their first season Downriver.
