Rockers Win Game vs Black Bears in Overtime Shootout
After falling the previous night to the Binghamton Black Bears 3-6, the Motor City Rockers were able to secure the victory over the Black Bears last night in an overtime shootout win. Binghamton was undefeated so far in their season, but the Rockers were able to get 2 points over the Black Bears from a shootout that ended the game last night.
The first period had the Black Bears outshooting the Rockers and scoring first, however, the Rockers were able to tie the game 1-1 towards the end of the first period. The Rockers Power Play continued to be a force to be reckoned with, starting with a goal from Roman Guadet, who’s on a four game point streak. The second period started with a goal from Tommy Cardinal, but quickly Binghamton followed, tying the game 2-2. Yet again, the Rockers scored on a Power Play on a goal from Jonathan Juliano, giving the Rockers the lead 3-2 at the end of the second period.
The third period was filled with action- Binghamton was able to tie the game up early on, but barely three minutes later, the Rockers scored again with a snipe from Dante Suffredini. The teams exchanged back and forth opportunities to score until the Black Bears were able to tie it up once more, 4-4. Soon, Binghamton took the lead for the first time since the beginning of the first period, after a goal from Nikita Ivashkin. Down 4-5 with less than five minutes left, Dante Suffredini was able to get his second goal of the night tying the game 5-5, sending the teams into overtime.
The five-minute overtime period flew by with barely any whistles, but when it was over, there was still no winner. It was time for a shootout. Best of five, Scott Coash shot first for the Rockers and was able to score, giving the Rockers the lead right off the bat. The Black Bears then missed their first two attempts, and Brad Reitter was able to cash one in on the third attempt for the Rockers, giving them a 2 goal advantage. The Black Bears were able to score one more, but ended up falling short, giving the Rockers a 6-5 win from the shootout.
